Where can I find accommodation?

In the “Hotels and accommodation” section you will find all the facilities available in Girona and the immediate surroundings. You can choose different categories of hotel, guesthouses, rural accommodation, the youth hostel or campsites.

What is the local cuisine like in Girona?

In the Restaurants and cafés section you will find the restaurants of the city classified by type of cuisine, with approximate prices. Girona's geographical location between the mountains and the sea gives easy access to a wide variety of ingredients of excellent quality. In the city's restaurants you will find a creative cuisine that is open to new ideas, influences and cultures, but which does not forget its roots: the ingredients and recipes of traditional Catalan cooking.

How can I find a taxi?

There are taxi ranks at the railway station and in front of the main Post Office, near Plaça de la Independència (in the centre of the city). You can also call for taxis on the following numbers: Taxi Girona (they also have specially-adapted taxis) 972 222 323 / 972 203 377;

Where can I park my car?

At the entry points into the city there are free parking areas, from which it is very easy to get to the city centre. There are also numerous paying car-parks inside the city.

Which are the shop opening times?

The usual opening times for the majority of shops is from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and from 4.30 to 8.30 p.m., although large franchises and shopping centres do not close at lunchtime. Hypermarkets and specialized establishments open from 10.00 am to 10.00 pm.
Shops open from Monday to Saturday. If you come shopping to Girona on Monday morning, do not be surprised to find many of the shops closed, since many shopkeepers prefer to stay closed during the first half of the day on Mondays. Establishments that you are sure to find open are franchises and the large supermarkets and department stores of the city, as well as some shops in the city centre.

How can I travel to the towns and villages in the area surrounding Girona, or to Barcelona?

Girona's geographical location makes it the ideal point of departure to discover the variety of landscapes throughout the surrounding region. Consult the section Getting around .

Can I access the Old Town with my car?

Access by car to the Old Town is allowed up to three times during a calendar quarter, but parking is not permitted.
If you drive through the Old Town more than three times, a traffic fine will automatically be issued for violating the prohibited traffic sign located in Plaça Catalunya.
Drivers who need to access the Old Town, for a justified reason, can apply for a permit to the Girona City Council.

At what time of the year are there sales in the shops?

The winter sales season starts on 7th January and usually finishes in the first week in March. The summer sales start from the 1st July onwards. The length of the sales depends on the establishment and the sales discounts are offered on the products of the season.
