Opening Times

Commercial opening times

The usual opening times for the majority of shops is from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and from 4.30 to 8.30 p.m., although large franchises and shopping centres do not close at lunchtime. Hypermarkets and specialized establishments open from 10.00 am to 10.00 pm.
Shops open from Monday to Saturday. If you come shopping to Girona on Monday morning, do not be surprised to find many of the shops closed, since many shopkeepers prefer to stay closed during the first half of the day on Mondays. Establishments that you are sure to find open are franchises and the large supermarkets and department stores of the city, as well as some shops in the city centre.

Mealtimes

As far as mealtimes are concerned, people have lunch between 1.30 and 3.00 p.m. and dinner between 8.30 and 10.00 p.m. At weekends the mealtimes are a little later. Most restaurants adapt to the habits of tourists.

Opening hours of museums and monuments

Most museums and monuments open to the public can be visited from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in winter, from March to September, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in summer. On Sundays and public holidays they are usually open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
They are open every day of the year with the exception of 1st and 6th January, Easter Sunday, and 25th and 26th December. The opening times of each museum can be consulted in our Monuments and Museums section.

Time changes

Girona is situated in the time zone GMT+ 01:00, the same as Madrid, Paris, Rome, Brussels, Berlin, Warsaw or Copenhagen.
As in most European countries, the official time varies during the year: the clocks go forward an hour on the last Sunday in March (for the change of time from winter to summer) and go back an hour on the last Sunday in October (for the change of time from summer to winter).

Opening times for banks

In general, banks and savings banks open from 8.15 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Savings banks open on Thursday afternoons from 4.30 to 7.45 p.m. from October to April.
