Summer at the Girona City History Museum

The Girona City History Museum invites you to participate in a varied programme of events that includes dramatised visits to discover the building's past, a visit to the Jardí de la Infància air-raid shelter (which has extended opening hours in summer), and four temporary exhibitions in which the city and its inhabitants take centre stage.

A visit to the museum takes you on a journey through Girona's history, from its origins until modern times, as you pass through the museum's 14 chronologically arranged rooms. The Civil War room exhibits can be complemented by a visit to the Jardí de la Infància air-raid shelter. Guided visits, entitled Bombs over Girona, take place on the third Sunday of every month at 11 am, and on Thursday 28 of July, 11 August and 1 September, at 6 pm. These tours should be booked in advance.
In summer, for more than eleven years now, the museum has opened its doors until midnight with dramatised visits, which this year take place on Tuesday 26 July and 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 August, at 10 pm. These visits offer you the chance to be taken back in time through the testimonies of characters who have inhabited the building along the centuries. You will meet the different inhabitants of what began as a Gothic manor house, later becoming the Capuchin monastery of Sant Antoni and, finally, the seat of the Institut Vell (Old Institute).
One of the personalities who taught many generations of Girona residents within these walls and who, through his research, revealed the city's past to its inhabitants, was Santiago Sobrequés Vidal. As part of the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of one of the most important Catalan historians of the last century, we invite you to visit the exhibition Santiago Sobrequés Vidal. which will be on display in the exhibition room until 25 September.
