Large public attendance at event

On Sunday 6 February, the temporary exhibition Carles Vivó: A Life of Many Paths closed with a family event at which the legends and giants of Girona took centre stage.

During this last homage by Girona city to the legacy of Carles Vivó, many members of the public enthusiastically participated in a walk from the City History Museum to the Passeig Arqueològic, La Francesa Gardens and Plaça dels Apòstols. They heard several of our city’s legends along the route and Fal•lera Gironina giants’ association enlivened the walk with some merry dancing. Over one hundred persons of all ages were present at the event, which highlighted part of the city’s deep-rooted mythical and historical imaginary.

The exhibition opened last October to coincide with St Narcís festival and received 2606 visitors in all. The aim was to honour the many-sided personality of Carles Vivó, an artist who saw creation as an open-ended, permeable space in which the boundaries between disciplines were blurred to the point of extinction. The exhibition also gathered the fruit of over half a century of the artist’s presence on the Girona cultural scene. Carles Vivó was open to all types of cultural manifestations: he became involved in cinema and theatre; he cultivated art criticism; and he dedicated many years of his life to studying and compiling local legends and traditions. He recovered the religious legends associated with St Narcís, the patron saint of the city, as well as orally transmitted legends from Girona myth and history, and recent apocryphal legends .
