The way we were

An excerpt from an editorial by Joan Ribas published on 23 January of this year in the section La Contra of the newspaper El Punt.

Girona has its own unique history which also comprises the years of the Franco regime, the struggle against that absurd and at times mentally ill power, often waged subtly and brilliantly by people such as Carles Vivó, seeking to allow our people's personality to emerge despite the homogenizing militarist intent that dominated those times. Carles Vivó was a free spirit who laughed at artificial constraints and labels. Perhaps many other people, myself included, would have wished to be like him, but his brilliance and opportunity would have been missing in us. He enjoyed these two advantages and he placed them at the service of the city, which has now publicly acknowledged this fact through this exhibition at the History Museum.
