Optical Telegraphy in Catalonia – travelling successfully.
This exhibition, which was curated by Jaume Prat and produced by Girona City Council, was shown in the Museum’s Coal Cellar and Cistern Rooms in 2004, and spent 2005 travelling successfully – and it is still on its travels now.
Optical telegraphy is a system for transmitting coded messages over long distances by means of visible signals. Jaume Prat focused his research on recovering the legacy of the system’s civil and military use, which is now forgotten but which was closely bound up with the history of municipalities.
The exhibition was enhanced by graphic solutions provided by the designer Pep Canaleta, and it aroused the interest of the staff in charge of culture in various municipalities in Catalonia. And it has been on show in Súria, Cambrils, Sarrià de Ter and Granollers.
