Exhibition from Santiago Sobrequés in Barcelona
The History Museum of Catalonia inaugurates the exhibition Santiago Sobrequés and Vidal, open until 24 June.
Last year, the exhibition Santiago Sobrequés and Vidal. A commitment with Girona that organized the Girona's City History Museum, from April 15 to September 25, received 5580 visits and the curators were Mercè Morales and Jaume Sobrequés, also.The show chronicles the life and career of James Sobrequés, but also explains the time that he lived from his testimony and commitment. Sobrequés was born and educated in Girona, but, like other youths of the time, saw the beginnings of the Civil War cut short his career. Sobrequés began his academic work as a professor of geography and history in an institute of Terrace to its mobilization in the Republican army in July 1937. After the war, the historian was the subject of a report of treatment by the Francoist authorities, and after passing through Malaga, Figueres and La Seu d'Urgell, in 1942 he won the shuttle to the Institute of Girona. The show is also the friendship with Sobrequés Vicens Vives and educational reform that took place together, "in areas that left the censorship," he said Mercedes Morales, curator of the exhibition.
Specialist in social and political history of Catalonia in the Middle Ages, Sobrequés is the author of works such as The barons of Catalonia, Great Counts of Barcelona, the Catalan civil war and society and political structure in medieval Girona. The historian also wrote several textbooks for publishing text Teide.
