Contemporary Girona. Status as a capital city (1800-1939)

We will get to know the main changes that the city experienced throughout the 19th century and during the first four decades of the 20th century.

The main unifying thread of the exhibition is the idea of “capital city”, which will guide us from the development of the urban landscape and its architecture in order to give the visitor the necessary guidelines to understand contemporary Girona from the signs that have survived to this day.

With the intention of awakening the sense of historic observation among our citizens, we want to help them to discover the current urban landscape by using history. Therefore, the documentation from the archives, material objects from private and public collections or photographs from the past constitute a vital complement in the contribution to discovering the Girona of today.
