Farándula. 500 years of festive imagery of Girona

An unknown reality by the citizenship gerundense.

The time passed from the apparition of the first giant in Girona and the diversity of the festive imagery that has there has been desconoce between the population. We can document the farándula from the 16th century, always inside a festive field, in celebrations of public character, so much civil as religious. The elements that compose this imagery are the giants, the cabezudos, eagles, dragons, mules, lions and small horses. Only we can understand his longevity if we have present the popular character of the figures and that do not have a simbología implicit that have determined his subsistencia along the centuries.
