Cityscapes of Girona. The artistic gaze

An anthology of images of Girona, ranging from the first recorded cityscapes to works from the mid-20th century.

In the exhibition, spanning a period of over three hundred years, local and other artists will each be represented by one work from the fonds of different museums and private collections. The Museum’s temporary exhibition rooms will be filled with cityscapes in a wide variety of techniques, ranging from engraving and painting to ceramics and photography. Some gaps will inevitably occur, and it has not been possible to include the original of the first known Girona cityscape, a 13th-century mural painting representing the city walls and the defenders of Girona during the French siege of 1285. However, this exhibition is not limited to cityscapes as works of art. The exhibits are accompanied with texts by word artists, by writers and by poets, in an attempt to highlight the additional documentary value of cityscape art for the recovery of our historical memory.
