Literary references and guides to Girona | One good way to discover the city is through references in books. The evocative atmosphere of the Old Town has captivated many authors. Famous names like Umberto Eco, who has his character Baudolino travel with ¨Solomon of Girona¨, or Noah Gordon, who explains in the introduction to The Last Jew how the Call of Girona took him back to the historical period of the expulsion of the Jews. Of the Catalan authors, the vision of Josep Pla is one of the most richly detailed, together with references by Prudenci Bertrana or Narcís Comadira, and among contemporary writers, Javier Cercas. The following list includes guidebooks and literary works connected with the city, either as a source of inspiration or as the setting for some chapters.
