Pharmacies are identifiable by an illuminated red or green cross. Normal opening times are from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 4.30 to 8.00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 9.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Saturdays. If you need to find a pharmacy outside these times, you can check 24 hours a day the list of pharmacies with emergency opening times which is posted on the outside doors of all pharmacies when closed, and in the local newspapers. Most medicines are sold on prescription.

The main tourist establishments offer medical services. Some countries have agreements with the Spanish Social Security system which enable the tourist to receive free assistance in all medical establishments, whether they be health centres (CAPs) or hospitals of the Catalan Health Institute. In these cases you will need a European Health Insurance card issued by the Social Security system of the traveller's country of origin (E-111).

On the 2nd January the new regulations have come into force about the tobacco. He forbids to smoke in all the closed public spaces.
Places where it can not get smoked:
Bars and restaurants.
Casinos, bingos and party rooms.
Hotels and hostels.
Airports and Railways stations of the Generalitat.
Universities and formation adults centers.
Residential centers for elderly persons or with disability.
Precincts of playpens and areas or playing zones for the childhood.
Sanitary centers.
Closed places where it is allowed to smoke:
Residential centers for elderly persons or with disability.
Psychiatric establishments.
Hotels and hostels. They can be reserved until 30% of the rooms for smoking room hosts, whenever they are sorted out from the other ones, are always the same rooms and have independent ventilation.
