Travel maps. The Catalan Atlas and the Cresques, Jews of Mallorca (14th century)Guided visit to the Cresques Atlas
![]() If the central theme of this year's edition of the European Day of Jewish Culture is travel, from the Museum we propose a journey through the cartography of antiquity through the Catalan Atlas of Cresques (1375). A very complete nautical chart of the Mediterranean that will help us understand the vision of the known world in the 14th century. A rich iconography that speaks, among other things, of astrology, cosmogony, calendar, flora and fauna, geography, economic and religious policy, but also of myths and legends. A work that draws from the sources of knowledge of the 14th century and that gives rise to a true tradition of Catalan cartography located in Mallorca and that reaches a great diffusion and persistence until the 17th century.
