Greeting from the Mayor of Girona

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Archives and Cultural Industries Congress. In 2014, Girona will be the focus of mankind's collective memory, hosting an event that will mark a turning point in the processing and dissemination of information worldwide over the next decade.

Our city has become a benchmark for Catalan culture, synonymous with historical, cultural, literary and culinary heritage, but also innovation and research. That is why Girona has been chosen as the host city for three major international events: the 2nd Annual Conference of the International Council on Archives, the 9th European Conference on Archives, and the 13th Image and Research Seminar.

These events, grouped together under the title Archives and Cultural Industries, will serve to redefine the role of archives in the Information and Knowledge Society, in other words looking at how to use the vast potential of archives for the development of mankind in all fields and the creation of consumer products in the cultural sphere.

On behalf of the city of Girona, I am very grateful for the trust that the International Council on Archives has placed in our city by choosing it as the venue for this congress. I encourage you to come here to visit and enjoy all the cultural and tourist attractions the city has to offer. You will be very welcome!
