Escolta Sefarad, the journey of the Haggadah

Book presentation within the framework of the +MOT 2026 festival

Thursday, March 19th - 18 h
Institut d'Estudis Nahmànides

The MOT Festival takes place in Olot and Girona from March 19 to 28, 2026. This year's theme is "I'm Leaving: The Journey in Literature." In every book there is one journey or another, and there is always one that coincides with what the reader has in mind while still at home, just before setting off. The MOT Festival collaborates with many organizations and associations which, under the +MOT name, organizes activities related to the theme of each edition.

The Nahmanides Institute for Jewish Studies takes part in this initiative with a presentation and discussion centred on the novel Escolta Sefarad, by Alfred Bosch.

The book has a singular protagonist: an illustrated book that brings together the richness and popular wisdom of Sephardic culture, the Haggadah. With rich and evocative prose, Alfred Bosch turns this precious book of the Jewish people into the narrative voice of a journey through time. Escolta Sefarad is at once a novel of love and loss, an elegy to medieval Catalan Jewish culture, and a passionate defence of the power of words and knowledge. Its final lesson, spoken by the Haggadah itself, resonates like an eternal promise: peoples may disappear, but as long as there are books, there will be memory, life and hope. In all cultures, books are ultimately transmitters of stories and memories, and drivers of life journeys.
