La obediencia desde el interior: ausencia de pensamiento y totalitarismo en Hannah Arendt y Claude Lefort

In this presentation, the ways in which Hannah Arendt and Claude Lefort understand the link between absence of thought and totalitarianism will be compared. Both consider that the totalitarian phenomenon is unprecedented. And they understand that one of the key points of its unprecedented character is that something happens to thought under totalitarianism. Each one confronts the problem in a unique way: Arendt mentions the substitution of thinking for the logic of the idea and Lefort points out the renunciation of thinking in terms of adhering to the word of the Master. However, both highlight the absence of thought as one of the fundamental features of totalitarianism, except that it allows us to understand the springs of obedience under this new form of domination.
