With the aim of preserving as much as possible of the original information, the text inscribed on the labels of the boxes and the cassettes has been transferred to a database. The database also contains the identification and location information provided by the cataloguer and the technical information obtained during the capture process. 

1.         Identification and location information 

  • Collection: Tribunal for Nuclear Claims of the Marshall Islands
  • Registry: A consecutive and unique number for each record.
  • Box number: The tapes were provisionally stored in numbered archive boxes.
  • Attributed title: Title attributed from the information entered on the labels of the box or cassette.
  • Level of description: Documentary unit
  • Date of registration: Date recording was created
  • Modification date: Date registry was modified 

2.         External information inscribed on the labels of the boxes or cassettes. 

  • Original reference: Original number inscribed on boxes or cassette labels
  • Date: Date inscribed on the labels of the box or cassette.
  • Year 1: Start year
  • Year 2: End year
  • Case No.: Case number of the judicial process, inscribed on the labels of the box or cassette.
  • Counter: Counter of the cassette player, inscribed on the labels of the box or cassette.
  • Summary: Transcription of the information entered on the labels of the boxes or cassettes
  • Brand, model: Brand and model of the cassette. 

3.         Information obtained during the digitisation process 

  • Document type: Sound/video document
  • Support: Nature of the material on which the information is recorded (magnetic tape)
  • Format: Technical characteristics of the object (VHS)
  • Channels: 1 channel (Mono). 2 channels (Stereo)
  • Speed: Correct cassette speed playback (cm/s)
  • Duration: Duration of the digital file (hh:mm:ss).
  • Hash Value: Digitisation has incorporated the HASH value of each file as a control measure of its digital integrity. The SHA256 has been used.
  • File size: Number of bytes of the file.
  • File name: The files in each recording have been identified using an alphanumeric code consisting of a unique and consecutive number preceded by the letters NCT (Nuclear Claims Tribunal). E.g. NCT024. In the case that cassettes have been recorded on both sides, two files have been created: Ex. NCT409_A; NCT409_B
