The railway officially arrived in Girona on 3rd March 1862. This revolution in the transport system, part of an overall project to modernize the Catalan economy, went hand in hand with the country's process of industrialization in which the fast new rail network served to reduce time and costs in the transportation of raw materials and manufactured goods.
