In 1887 the Polish doctor and linguist Ludwik L. Zamenhof presented Esperanto, an artificial international language invented as a neutral instrument of communication. Its very simple grammar made it easy to learn, a perfect neutral tool of communication. The first Esperantist groups included mainly liberal professionals, and a lot of women, as it was one of the first associations that admitted them.
